EASA Part 66 Module 8 Basic Aerodynamics:
- Basic Aerodynamics strictly matches the requirements of Part 66 including its content, sequence, and the required learning levels (L1, 2, 3) needed for an approved B1 mechanical and B2 avionics maintenance technician program, and is so approved by many national authorities as a part of the training programs of Part 147 schools within their jurisdiction.
Table of Contents:
- Physics of the Atmosphere
- Aerodynamics
A) Airflow around a body.
B) Boundary layer, laminar and turbulent flow, free stream flow, relative airflow, upwash and downwash, vortices, stagnation.
C) Terms: camber, chord, mean aerodynamic chord, profile (parasitic) drag, induced drag, center of pressure, angle of attack, wash-in and wash-out, fineness ration, wing shape, and aspect ratio.
D) Thrust, weight, aerodynamic resultants.
E) Generation of lift and drag, angle of attack, lift coefficient, polar curve, stall.
F) Airfoil contamination including ice, snow, and frost. - Theory of flight:
A) Relationship between lift, weight, thrust, and drag.
B) Glide ratio.
C) Steady state flights, performance.
D) Theory of the turn.
E) Influence of load factor, stall, flight envelope and structural limitations.
F) Lift augmentation - Flight stability and dynamics
- Each topic is explained with understandable text and exceptional full-color illustrations in step-by-step detail. You will learn by understanding concepts and how and why each skill is useful in the day-to-day tasks of the aircraft technician in the aviation maintenance environment. For FAA A&P students, all required topics are covered, however to the somewhat higher level of proficiency as the EASA licenses require.
