The dangerous goods general familiarization and safety course provides comprehensive training on the handling and treatment of dangerous goods in air transport in compliance with ICAO Annex 6 and IATA 1.5 requirements. Designed specifically for management, cargo handlers, and maintenance personnel, this course addresses the needs of those working with hazardous materials in their daily roles.
By law, employers must ensure that personnel are competent to perform any functions related to dangerous goods prior to undertaking these responsibilities. This competence must be achieved through training and assessment that includes: (a) general familiarization with dangerous goods—training personnel to be familiar with the general provisions; (b) function-specific training—ensuring personnel can competently perform their specific duties; and (c) safety training—educating personnel on recognizing hazards, safe handling procedures, and emergency response for dangerous goods.
This competency-based training covers the essential topics across four modules:
- Understanding basics and safety related to dangerous goods
- Processing and accepting baggage containing hazardous materials
- Transporting cargo and baggage with dangerous goods
- Managing and loading cargo that includes hazardous materials
